School Mediation

School Mediation promotes the development of reflective practices, creatively introducing a form of peace education by raising students' awareness of the social despicability of violence and the responsible use of words and actions. It also offers students concrete tools and techniques to ward off deviant behavior and transform conflicts into opportunities for mutual recognition and understanding.

Mediation offers students a space and time to be heard, to give voice to emotions and feelings, to clarify and clarify themselves while avoiding conflict escalation, to rethink relationships and actions and live joyfully, accepting diversity, times for relaxation, sharing, and growth.

Mediation can: help recognize and value feelings, needs, and interests; increase the development of cooperative and collaborative attitudes; contribute to the development of dialogue and social-relational skills; help resolve problems before conflict escalates; provide students with skills and knowledge in constructive conflict management; improve the school climate and relationships between students; promote creativity and problem solving; reduce tension and/or specific problems in the school.

Mediators can help resolve various types of conflict: arguments, misunderstandings, gossip, conflicts with and between foreign peers, teacher/student conflicts, conflicts between children, etc.

The School Mediator is not a judge, lawyer, arbitrator, psychologist, or counselor. They are communication facilitators with expertise in conflict management, who aim to restore dialogue between the parties in a climate of trust and by offering a constructive perspective that can transform the conflict into a transformative opportunity.
